Hello week 2! This week, we embrace the powerful theme of “Root to Rise.” with an emphasis on foundational strength, grounded presence, and growth from a place of stability
In nature, a tree’s strength comes from its roots—deep, grounded, and stable. The same holds true for our bodies. Before we can move with grace and freedom, we need a strong, centered foundation.
What Does “Root to Rise” Mean in Pilates?
“Rooting” is about connecting to the ground beneath you—feeling the earth through your feet, your sit bones, or your spine. It’s about anchoring. Once rooted, we can then rise—lift, lengthen, and expand our bodies in movement with intention and strength.
Whether you’re holding a plank, rolling up from your mat, or standing tall in a balance sequence, your stability and alignment begin with how grounded you are.
This Week’s Focus: Foundation, Breath & Core Connection
We’re slowing down to fine-tune our fundamentals:
- Deep Core Engagement (your Powerhouse!)
- Postural Alignment and Breath Control
- Pelvic Stability
You’ll notice exercises this week that revisit the basics—because building awareness in these areas will amplify every movement that follows. You are laying the groundwork for long-term strength.
Mantra of the Week: “I am rooted. I rise with strength and clarity.”
Use this affirmation during your sessions. Say it silently during your roll-ups. Whisper it between movements. Let it shape your intention: grounded yet open, powerful yet present.
Tips to Help You Root:
- Feel the Floor: Whether in standing or mat-based work, press down through all four corners of your feet or the base of your spine. That downward energy creates upward lift.
- Engage from Within: Think of pulling up through your pelvic floor and deep abdominals before you move.
- Lengthen as You Strengthen: As you root down, extend through the crown of your head or fingertips. Create space in your body.
Off the Mat Integration:
Root to rise doesn’t just apply to Pilates—it’s a life practice.
- Morning Ritual: Start your day grounded. Plant your feet on the floor, take three deep breaths, and check in with your body.
- Standing Tall: Whether waiting in line or on a walk, notice your posture. Are you rooted? Can you grow taller with your breath?
- Responding, Not Reacting: In stressful moments, remember your root. Pause. Breathe. Then rise into your response with clarity.
Final Words:
Progress in Pilates isn’t just about mastering new moves—it’s about deepening your awareness, one breath and one movement at a time. This week, honor where you’re planted, and trust that your rise will come naturally from that strength.
Let your foundation support your freedom. Let your roots empower your rise.
See you on the mat.
